Amphipoea is a genus of moths belonging to the family Noctuidae. These insects are known to act as agricultural pests, particularly in regions where their larvae target the stems and root systems of various crops. The host range of Amphipoea is quite broad, encompassing grains, potatoes, and various grasses. By boring into the stalks, the larvae disrupt the vascular system of the host plants, preventing nutrient transport and leading to severe physiological stress or mortality of the plant structure.
The biological cycle of Amphipoea is univoltine, meaning it completes one generation per year. The eggs are typically the overwintering stage, often deposited on plant debris or near the soil surface.
