Anastatus antestiae is a specialized species of parasitic wasp belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Eupelmidae. In agricultural science, it is recognized for its role as an egg parasitoid, specifically targeting the eggs of hemipteran pests that plague coffee plantations.

The primary host for this insect is the coffee bug Antestia orbitalis. By parasitizing the eggs of these bugs, the wasp acts as a biological control agent. However, understanding its population dynamics is crucial for agronomists, as its absence can lead to massive outbreaks of coffee bugs, causing significant damage to the berries.

The biological cycle consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The female wasp searches for the egg clusters of the host bug. Upon locating them, she inserts her ovipositor and deposits eggs inside the host eggs. The developing larva feeds on the yolk of the host egg, effectively destroying the pest before it can hatch.
