As a significant agricultural pest, it is primarily found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. Its ability to infest a wide variety of fruit species makes it a major concern for both local agriculture and international phytosanitary authorities.

The pest targets a diverse range of fruit crops. Its hosts include various species of citrus, mangoes, and other soft-fleshed tropical fruits.
