Apanteles ornigis is a specialized parasitoid wasp belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Braconidae. In agricultural ecosystems, this species is considered a highly beneficial biological control agent. It primarily targets leafmining moths, such as the spotted tentiform leafminer (Phyllonorycter blancardella), which are notorious pests that damage the foliage of apple and other rosaceous trees.

Unlike phytophagous pests that consume plant tissues, this insect focuses its biological energy on regulating populations of harmful moths.
