Contrary to being a pest, it is widely recognized by agronomists and researchers as a highly beneficial biological control agent. It serves as a natural enemy of various lepidopteran pests, most notably the potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella).

This species specializes in attacking crops that belong to the Solanaceae family, including potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplants.
