Aphidius megourae is a specialized entomophagous insect belonging to the family Braconidae (order Hymenoptera). It is recognized as a vital biological control agent that helps maintain the ecological balance by parasitizing aphids, which are common and destructive pests in both greenhouse and field conditions.

This species primarily attacks aphids that infest crops such as legumes and solanaceous plants. Aphids cause significant damage by sucking phloem sap, which induces plant wilting, stunted growth, and leaf curling. Furthermore, their role as vectors for plant viruses makes them a critical target for pest management strategies.

The life cycle of this parasitoid is highly efficient. The female wasp locates an aphid colony and deposits an egg inside a host. The internal larval development leads to the death of the aphid. Throughout this process, the host remains alive until the parasite reaches its pupal stage, ensuring enough food is available for the larva to develop completely.

A distinctive indicator of Aphidius megourae presence is the formation of 'mummies'. After the larva completes its feeding, it pupates inside the hollowed-out exoskeleton of the aphid, which turns a characteristic golden-brown or parchment color. Adult wasps later emerge by cutting a neat circular exit hole in the mummy's dorsal side.
