Godman's bean weevil (Apion godmani) is a significant coleopteran pest belonging to the family Apionidae. It is widely recognized for its destructive impact on common bean crops, particularly in regions where environmental conditions favor the rapid proliferation of this species. This insect is a primary constraint for sustainable legume production.
Adult beetles feed primarily on the foliage and floral structures of bean plants. However, the most severe damage is caused by the larval stage. Female weevils oviposit directly into the developing pods, allowing the larvae to immediately access the nutrient-rich seeds, where they complete their entire developmental process until pupation.
The life cycle is closely linked to the maturation of the host plant.
