The clover seed weevil (Latin: Apion virens) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Apionidae. It is a small snout beetle, typically 2-3 mm long, distinguished by its metallic green or bluish-green elytra, which provides camouflage while it feeds on various clover species.
This pest specifically targets leguminous crops, with red and meadow clover being the most common hosts. The damage is most severe in fields intended for seed production, as the weevil directly interferes with the plant’s reproductive success, leading to significant yield losses in seed farming operations.
