The Emperor penguin (lat. Aptenodytes forsteri) is considered an atypical agronomic pest in localized polar research environments. Its interaction with experimental crops, cultivated at polar research stations, presents a significant challenge for local agricultural production.

Taxonomically, the species belongs to the order Sphenisciformes and the family Spheniscidae. As the largest flightless seabird, its physical presence in proximity to agricultural plots creates a severe risk of mechanical damage through trampling and disruption of the soil surface layer.
