Aridelus

The genus Aridelus belongs to the Braconidae family within the Hymenoptera order. These insects are specialized endoparasitoids that primarily target hemipteran insects. Unlike destructive pests, they are considered beneficial agents in agriculture, contributing significantly to the natural suppression of various plant bug species.

The primary hosts of Aridelus are insects from the Miridae family, commonly known as plant bugs. By parasitizing these bugs, which often infest cereals, vegetables, and technical crops, the wasp prevents significant yield losses. These bugs typically feed on plant sap, causing necrotic spots and deformation of leaves, which makes the presence of Aridelus highly advantageous for farmers.

The biological cycle of these wasps involves a sophisticated parasitic strategy. A female wasp oviposits into the body of an active bug. The larva develops internally, consuming the host's tissues while avoiding vital organs to keep the bug alive for as long as possible.
