Host plants: This aphid is a polyphagous insect with a very wide host range. It infests a variety of families, most notably Solanaceae (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) and various ornamental plants such as lilies, tulips, and roses. It can survive on dozens of different plant species, making it a persistent threat.

Biology and life cycle: The species reproduces parthenogenetically in greenhouses, allowing for overlapping generations and rapid population growth. The aphids typically feed on the undersides of leaves, on shoots, and around flower buds. They prefer mild temperatures and can thrive indoors throughout the year, protected from external weather fluctuations.

Damage and economic importance: Feeding damage manifests as chlorosis, leaf curling, stunted growth, and premature drop of buds or leaves. The most critical economic impact of Aulacorthum solani lies in its role as a vector for numerous persistent and non-persistent plant viruses, such as potato virus Y, which can cause devastating losses in commercial agricultural production.
