Autoplusia egena is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae, subfamily Plusiinae, within the order Lepidoptera. Known primarily as a caterpillar pest, it poses a recurring challenge to agricultural productivity, specifically in horticultural and broad-acre farming, due to the high nutritional requirements of its larvae.

The host range of this pest is diverse, encompassing many commercially important plants. It frequently affects members of the Solanaceae family, various legumes, and ornamental flowers. The flexibility in its diet allows it to transition between crops, making it a persistent threat throughout the growing season.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The larval stage is the most destructive phase.
