Description
Systematic position. Bactericera maura belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Triozidae. These insects are recognized as significant sap-sucking pests that specifically target several economically important crops, often going unnoticed until damage becomes visible.
Host plants and damage. The pest primarily infests plants of the Solanaceae family, including potato, tomato, eggplant, and pepper. By feeding on phloem sap, both nymphs and adults cause physiological stress to the host. Symptoms include leaf curling, yellowing, stunted growth, and in severe cases, the complete cessation of development of the infested plant parts.
Biology and life cycle. The life cycle consists of the egg stage, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage.
