Systematic position. This species belongs to the order Diptera and the family Tephritidae. Members of this family, particularly those within the genus Bactrocera, are widely recognized as significant economic pests, causing substantial damage to various horticultural and fruit crops across global tropical and subtropical regions.
Host crops. The pest is known to infest a wide variety of fruit-bearing plants. Its host range typically includes diverse tropical fruits, vegetable crops, and some botanical species susceptible to oviposition. The insect's adaptability makes it a persistent threat to commercial orchards and local production sites where environmental conditions are suitable for its life cycle.
Biology and life cycle. The life cycle involves four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The female fly inserts eggs into the fruit tissue using its ovipositor.
