The host range of Bactrocera divenderi includes a wide variety of commercial and wild fruiting plants. It targets fleshy fruits, causing substantial damage to orchards and vegetable gardens. Due to its host flexibility, the fly can establish populations in diverse habitats, making it difficult to control without specialized strategies that consider local agricultural practices and ecological conditions.

The life cycle of this species comprises egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Adult females pierce the skin of ripening fruits to deposit eggs beneath the surface. Once mature, larvae exit the fruit and burrow into the surrounding soil to pupate, which marks the completion of a generation cycle.

Damage is characterized by visible puncture marks on the fruit surface, followed by localized rotting, softening, and premature fruit drop. The internal infestation by larvae renders the fruit completely unmarketable. Furthermore, these entry points facilitate the rapid spread of secondary pathogens such as bacteria and fungi, which can destroy an entire harvest within a short period if left unmanaged.
