Bactrocera mucronis is a highly destructive species belonging to the family Tephritidae, order Diptera. This fruit fly is a significant agricultural pest in various regions, particularly within tropical and subtropical ecosystems. Its status as an invasive threat requires consistent monitoring by agricultural authorities to prevent its spread into new, vulnerable territories.

The host range of Bactrocera mucronis is relatively broad, encompassing various types of commercial fruit crops. The larvae cause direct damage by feeding on the internal pulp of the fruits. Because the larvae develop inside the fruit, the damage is often unseen until it is widespread, making early detection critical for commercial growers who aim to minimize losses during the harvest season.
