The primary host range includes various tropical and subtropical crops. Most damage is reported in species belonging to the Rosaceae and Solanaceae families, as well as several exotic fruit species. The damage is primarily caused by larvae that bore into the fruit, leading to premature drop and rapid decay of the tissue.

The biology of this pest encompasses four developmental stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The female oviposits under the skin of maturing fruit using a specialized ovipositor.
