The Bayeriola midge (genus Bayeriola) belongs to the family Cecidomyiidae within the order Diptera. These small flies are significant agricultural pests known for their ability to induce gall formation in various plant tissues, negatively affecting plant growth and development.
These pests primarily target specific grasses and herbaceous crops. Their presence is often detected by the abnormal swelling or distortion of stems, leaves, or flower buds, which serves as both a food source and a protective shelter for the developing larvae.
