Description

Systematic position. Blepharipa tibialis belongs to the order Diptera and the family Tachinidae. These flies are widely recognized as specialized parasitoids. Biology and life cycle. The life cycle of Blepharipa tibialis involves a holometabolous development. The female fly deposits eggs on the host larvae. Upon hatching, the larvae bore into the host, where they feed on non-essential tissues initially, ensuring the survival of the host until the parasitoid is ready to pupate. The final instar larvae exit the host, drop to the ground, and form a puparium in the soil, which usually undergoes diapause during the winter.
