Lancelet

It is essential to clarify that the lancelet (Branchiostoma lanceolatum) is not an agricultural or horticultural pest. It is a primitive marine chordate belonging to the family Branchiostomatidae within the subphylum Cephalochordata, and it lives exclusively in marine environments.

From a biological standpoint, the lancelet is a filter feeder that dwells in sandy marine substrates. Its body structure and physiology are uniquely adapted to high-salinity water environments, where it traps microscopic plankton and detritus. Consequently, it cannot survive in soil environments where crops are cultivated.
