Description
The Pear leaf miner (Bucculatrix pyrivorella) is a small moth belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Bucculatricidae. It is considered a specialized pest of pear trees, though it may occasionally infest related Rosaceae species. Its presence is often overlooked until significant leaf damage becomes visible.
The biological cycle of this pest typically consists of several generations per year. The larvae spend their early life stages mining inside the leaf tissue, creating characteristic winding tunnels. As they mature, they feed on the leaf surface, causing irregular-shaped holes and extensive tissue destruction that reduces the photosynthetic efficiency of the tree.
