Capnia bifrons is a species of stonefly belonging to the order Plecoptera and the family Capniidae. While predominantly recognized for its aquatic larval stage, this insect can occasionally emerge as an agricultural nuisance, particularly in fields adjacent to slow-moving or clean water sources.

The life cycle begins in aquatic environments where the nymphs, or naiads, undergo several molts. These nymphs primarily feed on organic detritus, playing a role in aquatic nutrient cycling. Upon reaching maturity, the winged adults emerge and transition to land, where they may interact with vegetation in the immediate vicinity of their emergence sites.

Regarding agricultural impact, Capnia bifrons can cause damage to plant foliage during the adult phase. Although not a primary pest of global staple crops, localized populations can consume young leaves and tender shoots, leading to stunted growth or physiological stress in sensitive plant varieties located in riparian zones.

The damage typically manifests as irregular holes or frayed margins on leaves, reducing the surface area available for photosynthesis. While the economic threshold is rarely reached in broad-acre farming, intensive horticultural operations near water bodies require monitoring to prevent significant yield losses during periods of peak adult activity.
