The Northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) belongs to the order Passeriformes and the family Cardinalidae. The biology of the species involves an adaptive breeding cycle, often producing multiple clutches per season. Once the breeding cycle is complete, juvenile birds and adults form small flocks that actively traverse agricultural landscapes.
