Systematic position: The Edwards fruit fly (Ceratitis edwardsi) belongs to the family Tephritidae, order Diptera. This species is a member of the fruit fly group, which is notorious for causing massive losses in fruit production globally due to its rapid reproductive capacity.

Host crops: This pest primarily affects a variety of tropical and subtropical fruits. It is commonly found infesting citrus fruits, coffee berries, and various other fruit-bearing trees within its geographical range, leading to significant agricultural challenges.
