Ceratitis flavipennata is a species of fruit fly belonging to the family Tephritidae, order Diptera. As a member of a genus known for its significant economic impact on horticulture, this species shares common morphological and behavioral traits with other invasive tephritids. It is recognized as a potential threat to various fruit-producing regions where host plants are cultivated.

The pest primarily targets a variety of tropical and subtropical fruits. Its host range includes citrus species, mango, papaya, and several other soft-fleshed fruits. The larvae cause extensive damage by feeding internally on the pulp, rendering the fruits unsuitable for commercial distribution and consumption.

The life cycle of Ceratitis flavipennata consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Females use their ovipositor to deposit eggs beneath the skin of susceptible fruits. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae tunnel through the fruit tissue to feed, which leads to rapid internal decay, loss of fruit integrity, and premature fruit drop.

The economic impact is severe, as infestation leads to significant yield reduction and makes fruits unmarketable due to both direct tissue destruction and the secondary entry of fungi and bacteria that accelerate the rotting process.
