The Venus girdle, scientifically known as Cestum veneris, is a species of comb jelly belonging to the phylum Ctenophora, order Cestida, and family Cestidae. It is a strictly marine, pelagic organism found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. It resides exclusively in open ocean environments, far removed from agricultural land and cultivated crops.
It is crucial to clarify that the Venus girdle is not an agricultural pest. There is no scientific basis for classifying it as a threat to plants, crops, or forestry. The creature's anatomy, which consists of a transparent, ribbon-like body reaching up to 1.5 meters, is perfectly adapted for marine locomotion and suspension feeding in the water column.
Regarding its biological cycle, the organism relies on ciliary movement and specialized colloblast cells to capture microscopic zooplankton. Its entire life cycle, from larval stage to maturity, occurs within marine ecosystems.
