Description

Systematic position. The amber fruit fly (Chaetorellia succinea) belongs to the order Diptera and the family Tephritidae. This insect is a specialized phytophagous species known for its specific host plant preferences within the Asteraceae family.

Host plants. The primary crop at risk is sunflower (Helianthus annuus). Furthermore, the pest maintains populations on various wild Asteraceae species, such as thistles and knapweeds, which serve as natural reservoirs throughout the growing season.

Biology and life cycle. Chaetorellia succinea typically overwinters as a puparium within the soil or debris.
