Chrotogonus hemipterus is a species of grasshopper belonging to the order Orthoptera and the family Pyrgomorphidae. Known as flat-headed grasshoppers, these insects are characterized by a rugged, tubercular body structure and shortened wings. They are significant agricultural pests primarily found in the arid and semi-arid regions of Africa and parts of South Asia.

This species is highly polyphagous, meaning it feeds on a wide range of host plants. The primary crops affected by Chrotogonus hemipterus include cereals such as sorghum, pearl millet, maize, and wheat, as well as various legumes and vegetable crops. They pose the greatest threat to germinating seeds and young seedlings in the early stages of development.
