Description
The Soybean looper (Chrysodeixis) belongs to the family Erebidae and is recognized as a significant agricultural pest worldwide. These moths are characterized by their loop-like movement in the larval stage, from which their common name is derived. They are notorious for their rapid proliferation in warm agricultural regions.
The primary crops affected by Chrysodeixis include soybeans, cotton, tomatoes, and various legumes. The larvae are generalist feeders, meaning they can thrive on many host plants, making them a constant threat to biodiversity in farming systems and necessitating continuous field surveillance.
The biological cycle consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The eggs are typically deposited on the underside of the leaves.
