Cinara vandykei is a species of aphid in the family Aphididae, specialized in infesting various conifer species. It is commonly found on trees such as arborvitae (Thuja), cypress, and juniper, where it feeds on the nutrient-rich sap of the stems and woody branches.
This pest is particularly troublesome for nursery stock and ornamental plantings. Because the aphids are often camouflaged against the bark, initial infestations are frequently overlooked until the plant shows visible signs of distress, such as foliage yellowing or thinning.
The biology of Cinara vandykei follows a typical aphid life cycle involving both sexual and asexual reproduction phases. They overwinter as eggs deposited in the crevices of the tree bark.
