The Kirkaldy leafhopper (Colladonus kirkaldyi) is an insect belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. This species is recognized in agricultural entomology as a significant pest, primarily due to its role as a vector of various phytoplasma and viral diseases that devastate orchards.

The primary hosts of this pest include species within the Rosaceae family. It is particularly damaging to stone fruit orchards, including cherry, peach, apricot, and plum trees. The presence of these insects can significantly reduce both the yield and the overall longevity of commercial orchard trees.

The biology and lifecycle of Colladonus kirkaldyi are characterized by rapid reproduction cycles during the growing season. Overwintering occurs typically in the egg stage, which is deposited within the plant tissue. Upon hatching in the spring, nymphs undergo several stages of development, feeding persistently on the phloem sap of the host plants.
