The leafhopper Colladonus rupinatus belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. This insect is recognized as an agricultural pest due to its ability to damage a wide variety of plants and, more importantly, its role as a vector for various phytoplasma diseases that severely impact plant physiology.

This species infests numerous host plants, including various fruit trees and vegetable crops. They are particularly attracted to gardens and commercial plantations where they can thrive. The distribution of Colladonus rupinatus is often linked to the presence of susceptible host plants in the surrounding landscape, including wild grasses and weeds that act as reservoirs.

The biology of Colladonus rupinatus follows the typical life cycle of cicadellids, progressing through egg, nymph, and adult stages. Both adults and nymphs feed on plant sap, utilizing specialized mouthparts to pierce the epidermis of leaves and stems.
