This pest is a significant threat to cereal crops, as it possesses piercing-sucking mouthparts specifically adapted for exploiting the nutrient-rich fluids of grass species, which leads to localized physiological stress in cultivated plants.

The host range of this pest primarily includes economically vital cereals such as wheat, oats, and barley. The insects feed on all above-ground parts of the plant, but the most severe damage occurs when they target the developing grain during the milk stage. By extracting sap from the kernels, the pest interferes with grain filling, resulting in reduced weight and poor seed quality.
