Comperiella (Comperiella bifasciata) is a beneficial hymenopteran parasitoid belonging to the family Encyrtidae. Far from being a pest, it is a highly specialized biological control agent utilized in agriculture to manage populations of various armored scale insects, particularly those affecting citrus groves and ornamental plants.

The primary target of this parasitoid is the red scale (Aonidiella aurantii), a devastating pest in citrus cultivation worldwide. By exerting natural pressure on these populations, Comperiella bifasciata serves as a critical component of integrated pest management (IPM) programs, helping to reduce reliance on hazardous chemical applications.

The life cycle of this wasp is strictly internal (endoparasitic). The adult female searches for a suitable host, typically a scale insect, and inserts her egg directly under the scale's protective covering. The larva consumes the host from within, completing its development and pupation beneath the empty scale, which eventually leads to the host's death.
