Crops: The species primarily affects clover plants (genus Trifolium), specifically red clover. By targeting the flower buds, the pest disrupts the formation of seeds, directly impacting agricultural output and the economic viability of clover cultivation.
Biology and lifecycle: Adult midges emerge during the budding stage of the host plant. Females deposit their eggs inside the flower buds.
