The Inouyei gall midge (Contarinia inouyei) is a member of the Cecidomyiidae family, order Diptera. This tiny insect is recognized as a significant pest affecting various pine species. It poses a specific threat to forest health, as its larval stage causes direct physiological damage to the foliage of coniferous trees.
The primary hosts for this pest include trees within the genus Pinus. The midge exhibits a high degree of host specificity, focusing its reproductive cycle on the needles of susceptible pine species, which can lead to significant infestations in both managed forests and ornamental conifer plantations.
