Crisicoccus seruratus is a member of the Pseudococcidae family (mealybugs) within the Hemiptera order. As a sucking pest, it poses a threat to various horticultural and woody plants by extracting essential phloem sap, which leads to stunted growth and structural weakness in infested hosts.
This pest primarily attacks succulent parts of plants, such as young shoots, leaf undersides, and leaf axils. It is commonly encountered in nurseries and greenhouses, where stable microclimate conditions allow the mealybug to thrive and reproduce throughout the year without significant environmental interruptions.
The life cycle involves egg, nymph (crawler), and adult stages. Females are protected by a powdery or cottony wax secretion, which makes them highly resistant to standard contact insecticides. The mobile nymph stage, known as a crawler, is responsible for the distribution of the pest across the plant surface and migration to neighboring plants.
