The mango blossom gall midge (Dasineura amaramanjarae) is a member of the Cecidomyiidae family within the order Diptera. This insect is widely recognized as a highly specialized pest that targets the inflorescences of mango trees, causing significant agricultural concern in major mango-producing regions.
This pest specifically infests the flowers and buds of the mango tree (Mangifera indica). By targeting the reproductive structures of the plant, the gall midge effectively prevents the development of fruits, leading to a substantial reduction in total yield for commercial farmers.
