Delassor mura

Systematic position. Delassor mura is a species of beetle belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae (weevils). As an agricultural pest, it occupies a specific ecological niche, often targeting plants that provide both food and suitable conditions for oviposition.

Host plants and damage. The pest is primarily known for damaging leguminous plants. It poses a significant threat to various pulse crops, including soybeans and peas. By concentrating its feeding on these crops, Delassor mura can cause economic losses, particularly when infestation levels reach the economic threshold during the early growth stages.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle of Delassor mura follows a pattern of complete metamorphosis consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Adults typically overwinter in the soil or protected debris. Upon emergence in the spring, they feed on young foliage before laying eggs, which results in larvae that penetrate plant stems to feed internally.

Damage and economic impact. The larvae cause structural damage by creating tunnels inside stems, which interrupts nutrient and water transport within the plant. This leads to stunted growth, wilting, and increased susceptibility to secondary infections. Adult feeding on leaves can also reduce photosynthetic capacity, directly impacting the final yield quantity and quality.

Protection measures. Managing Delassor mura effectively requires an integrated strategy:
