Description
The rice leafhopper, taxonomically identified as Deltocephalus oryzae, belongs to the family Cicadellidae within the order Hemiptera. It is recognized as a significant pest in rice-growing regions, where its feeding habits frequently lead to substantial losses in agricultural productivity.
The primary host plant for this species is the rice plant (Oryza sativa). However, when the rice crop is not available, the insect can survive and breed on various grassy weeds, effectively maintaining its population density within the ecosystem of the paddy fields throughout the year.
