Diaspiniphagus is a genus of parasitic wasps belonging to the family Aphelinidae. In agricultural practice, these organisms are known as natural regulators of scale insect populations. While they are essentially beneficial entomophages, their presence is intrinsically linked to the infestation of host plants by armored scales, which are recognized as major agricultural pests.

From a systematic perspective, Diaspiniphagus is classified within the order Hymenoptera. They have evolved as highly specialized parasitoids that target various species of scale insects (Diaspididae). These insects infest fruit trees, ornamental shrubs, and greenhouse crops, causing significant physiological stress and economic loss to farmers and nursery producers.

The biology and life cycle of these insects are characterized by a precise synchronization with their host. The female wasp locates the scale insect, deposits an egg beneath its protective shield, and the developing larva consumes the host from within.
