They are highly specialized parasites that target the larvae of the Colorado potato beetle, providing a natural mechanism for population suppression in agricultural ecosystems.

In terms of systematics, Doryphorophaga falls under the Tachinidae family, which is widely recognized for its diversity of parasitoid species.
