Systematic position: The sycamore aphid (Drepanosiphum platanoidis) belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. It is a highly specialized species that exclusively targets maple trees, making it a significant pest in both urban arboriculture and silviculture.
Host plants: The primary hosts are species within the genus Acer, most notably the sycamore maple and Norway maple. The aphid is commonly found in managed landscapes, forests, and ornamental nurseries where these tree species are planted.
Biology and life cycle: The species overwinters in the egg stage, typically deposited in the crevices of bark or near buds.
