Description

The Oak mirid bug (Dryophilocoris flavoquadrimaculatus) is an insect belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Miridae. This species is commonly found in temperate forest ecosystems where it primarily interacts with oak tree species, acting as a specialized herbivore.

The host plants for this pest are primarily trees of the genus Quercus. Both nymphs and adults feed on the plant sap of young leaves and reproductive structures, which can significantly affect the host's physiological processes during the early part of the growing season.

The life cycle of the bug consists of a single generation per year. The overwintering phase occurs in the egg stage, typically deposited within the bark crevices or near the buds of host plants. Hatching occurs synchronously with the bud burst of the oak, allowing the young nymphs to begin feeding immediately on tender tissues.

Feeding activities lead to characteristic necrotic spots and chlorosis on the leaves, followed by curling and premature leaf drop.
