Systematic position: The genus Dryophthorus belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae (true weevils). These beetles are well-known wood-borers that are specifically adapted to colonizing and feeding on decaying or weakened woody plant tissues.

Host plants and damage: The weevil primarily infests stressed, dying, or dead trees, as well as harvested timber. It is capable of attacking a variety of both coniferous and deciduous species. The presence of the pest is particularly significant in forestry and timber industries, where it can reduce the commercial value of lumber.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle is characterized by complete metamorphosis occurring entirely within the wood. Adult beetles bore into the bark and wood to create galleries where eggs are laid. Larvae feed on the wood tissues, deepening and expanding the galleries. Pupation also takes place within these internal chambers, sheltered from environmental threats.

Nature of damage and harmfulness: Larval feeding activities create intricate tunnel networks that disrupt the integrity of the wood structure. This internal boring leads to significant loss of structural strength and quality. Moreover, the galleries facilitate the entry of moisture and secondary pathogens such as wood-decay fungi, which hasten the deterioration process of the host tree.

Control measures: Integrated pest management strategies are essential to minimize damage caused by Dryophthorus:
