The Mackenzie mealybug (Dysmicoccus mackenziei) is a specialized insect pest belonging to the family Pseudococcidae within the order Hemiptera. It is primarily recognized as a significant threat to coniferous trees and shrubs in nursery and landscape settings.

This pest mainly infests members of the Cupressaceae family, including junipers and arborvitae (Thuja). Its specialized feeding habits often go unnoticed until significant damage has already occurred, making early detection a critical aspect of horticultural management.

The biological cycle involves several stages, with the adult female covered in a characteristic white, waxy substance that provides protection against contact insecticides. Reproduction typically involves the production of egg masses; the crawler stage is the most mobile, allowing the pest to colonize new parts of the host plant or spread to nearby vegetation.
