Description
The Hawthorn leafhopper (Edwardsiana crataegi) is a small insect belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. It is a common pest in orchards and landscapes, primarily affecting pome fruit trees. Both adults and nymphs are typically found on the underside of leaves, where they feed by sucking sap from the plant tissues.
The primary host plants for this species include hawthorn, apple, and pear trees, though other members of the Rosaceae family may also be attacked. Due to their small size and cryptic behavior, infestations often go unnoticed until the characteristic damage to the foliage becomes clearly visible throughout the canopy.
