Elasmostethus interstinctus is a widely distributed species that has adapted to thrive on various deciduous trees, making it a common sight in forest edges, woodlands, and urban green spaces.

Host plants targeted by this pest are primarily deciduous species. Their diet predominantly includes birch, alder, aspen, and willow trees. While they show a strong preference for forest species, they can occasionally be found in orchards or ornamental gardens, feeding on the foliage of various woody plants when their primary food sources are scarce.

Biology and life cycle typically involve a single generation per year, though in warmer climates, development can be slightly accelerated. Adult bugs overwinter in sheltered areas, such as leaf litter, bark crevices, or under debris. As spring arrives, they become active, feed on early leaf buds, and soon begin laying eggs on the undersides of leaves.

Nature of damage and economic impact arise from the bug's piercing-sucking mouthparts. By extracting plant sap, the insects create chlorotic spots on the leaves, which eventually turn necrotic. In cases of significant infestation, the foliage may wilt or drop prematurely, hindering the tree's growth and overall vigor during the growing season.
