Elenchus

Elenchus is a genus of insects belonging to the order Strepsiptera (twisted-wing parasites) and the family Elenchidae. These unique organisms are endoparasitoids that specifically target planthoppers and leafhoppers, which are notorious pests of various essential agricultural crops worldwide.

The primary hosts of Elenchus are cicadellids and delphacids, which cause significant damage to cereal crops, grasses, and rice. By parasitizing these insects, Elenchus directly influences the population dynamics of vectors that transmit viral and phytoplasmal diseases in plants, acting as a biological limiting factor in agricultural ecosystems.
