Elomya

Elomya is a genus of flies belonging to the family Tachinidae, within the order Diptera. These insects are classified as specialized parasitoids, playing a crucial role in regulating the populations of various arthropods in both natural and agricultural ecosystems. Unlike typical plant pests, members of the genus Elomya are beneficial agents that contribute to biological control.

The primary hosts for Elomya are various species of stink bugs (Pentatomidae), which are known for causing significant damage to cereal, vegetable, and industrial crops. By targeting these pests, Elomya helps in suppressing their numbers. Their interaction with hosts is a classic example of host-parasitoid biological dynamics, where the fly's survival depends entirely on the successful exploitation of the host insect.

The life cycle of Elomya follows the standard tachinid pattern. The adult female deposits an egg on or near the host.
